HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF THE NJERU TRAINING CENTRE

The Training Centre was opened in 1955 in Jinja by the British Insulated Construction Company (BICC) to carry out the following:

The centre is located in Njeru, Jinja District, Uganda

OUTLINE OF PROGRAMMES CONDUCTED AT THE NJERU TRAINING CENTRE

The Course is designed to provide participants with practical techniques and concepts involved in the construction and maintenance of overhead lines and overhead/pole mounted equipment.The course shall provide the participants with the opportunity to learn safe working practices and value of team work.The course includes tours to designated areas/stations and involvement in actual line construction/maintenance where participants will learn and practice on real power lines.
The Course is designed to provide participants with improved reliability of the overhead lines. The Course shall provide participants with ‘virtual age’ of the over head lines. The course includes tours to designated areas/stations and involvement in actual line construction/maintenance where participants will learn and practice on real power lines.
The Course is designed to provide participants with basic skills and concepts involved in the construction and maintenance of overhead lines.The course shall provide the participants with an opportunity to learn safe working practices and value of team work
  • Cover the basics of live line work emphasizing the importance of safety
  • Acquire knowledge of the tools and their uses
  • Inspect and test tools at test site
  • Demonstrate care and maintenance
  • Explain the positioning of tools and relationship to weights and tensions
  • Observe trainees climbing skills, methods and equipment]
  • Use of basic hand tools and sticks
  • Rigging on simulated conditions
  • Rigging on energized lines
-The course is designed to provide the participants with practical techniques and concepts involved in the operating regulations of high voltage systems.
-The course shall provide the participants with the opportunity to learn safe working practices and value of team work.
-The course includes tours to designated areas/stations and involvement in actual line construction/maintenance where participants will learn and practice on real power lines.
